Job Title: International Foundation Year Maths Tutor
Department: Pathways
Reports to: Director of Studies / Academic Programmes Manager – Pathways Number of Reports: 0

Hours of Work: Full Time (16-20 hours teaching per week) Part Time (4, 8 or 12 hours teaching per week), plus marking, planning and course admin.

Working Pattern: depends on contract but Mon-Fri 8am-8pm

Contract Type: Permanent and Fixed Term Contracts (September – June) Available Location:  Central London.

Salary Range: £28,000- £31,000 per annum pro rata.

 

PURPOSE OF ROLE:

To join a teaching team as a Maths tutor for the NCUK International Foundation Year programme. Delivering high-standard economics lessons to classes of up to 15 international students, according to the NCUK syllabus, with focussed attention on student progress and assessment. Experience teaching subject at level 3-4 is desirable.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching the NCUK International Foundation Year Maths for Business Module
  • Designing course materials and formative assessment materials
  • Setting and marking formative assessments on NCUK online system
  • Marking summative coursework and giving timely feedback on drafts and final submissions
  • Marking formative and summative exams on NCUK online system
  • Reporting to NCUK on exams and coursework (completing markers reports)
  • Taking part in standardisation to ensure our marking is accurate
  • Contributing to pre-arrival subject materials
  • Completing weekly and monthly reports on the students’ progress
  • Attending team meetings, and student meetings
  • Providing additional material and resources to students who may require additional support

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • A relevant academic qualification at UK graduate level (Essential).
  • A recognised teaching qualification in relevant subject (Desirable).
  • Relevant teaching experience (Essential). Normally a minimum of two years. This experience should relate to the delivery of a Western-style syllabus using Western conventions and methodologies. Significant teaching/programme management experience at a reputable university may also be acceptable.
  • The ability to contribute to integrated teaching across the curriculum (Essential).
  • An understanding of UK/western higher education and the needs and requirements of international

    students (Essential).

  • Direct experience of further and higher education in an international context (Essential).
  • Specific experience of education in the UK (Desirable).
  • Experience of the development of academic programmes (Desirable).
  • Experience of academic assessment and standards, and of quality assurance procedures (Desirable).
  • Experience of teaching non-native speakers of English (Desirable).
  • An understanding and appreciation of private sector education (Desirable).
  • Experience of living and working in the UK (Desirable).
